Classical Conditioning
Many of you will be familiar with Pavlov's dogs, it may ring a bell.
Pavlov's Dogs and Classical Conditioning
Ivan Pavlov's experiments in the late 19th century demonstrated classical conditioning, a learning process where a neutral stimulus becomes associated with an unconditioned stimulus to elicit a conditioned response. Pavlov observed that dogs naturally salivated (unconditioned response) when presented with food (unconditioned stimulus). He introduced a neutral stimulus—a bell—and repeatedly paired it with food. Over time, the dogs began to salivate upon hearing the bell alone, as they had learned to associate the sound with food. This conditioned response revealed how behaviors could be shaped through repeated associations, laying the foundation for understanding learned reflexes and responses123.
"You Conspiracy Theorist" - Automatic Responses and Conditioning by Media and Culture
A person's automatic responses are often shaped by cultural conditioning and media influence. Through repeated exposure, individuals unconsciously associate stimuli—such as advertisements or social norms—with specific emotions or behaviors. Media amplifies this effect by leveraging classical conditioning principles: pairing products with desirable lifestyles or using popular figures to evoke trust and admiration. Cultural norms further reinforce these associations, guiding behavior through implicit rules learned over time. For example, prestige bias drives people to emulate influencers, while conformity bias ensures adherence to societal expectations. These mechanisms show how pervasive conditioning molds preferences and automatic reactions in modern life.
Since the media linked the term conspiracy theorist to just about everyone that might question the official narrative, you will just see this automatic response anytime you question anything from the media or government messaging. They will not be thinking, they will be responding via a conditioned response.
Operant Conditioning
The Use of Operant Conditioning (OC) or carrot and stick methods were utilized extensively by Governments during the what was labelled the pandemic.
OC, pioneered by B.F. Skinner, involves learning through consequences. Behaviors are reinforced (rewarded) or punished, influencing future actions. This process shapes behavior based on the following outcomes, effectively teaching individuals what actions are desirable or undesirable through trial and error. These examples demonstrate how governments used a mix of rewards and penalties during the pandemic to shape citizen behavior and ensure compliance with public health policies.
During the last 5 years we have been subjected to an array of both types of conditioning.
Below are some examples if how the public were conditoned into complying.
